There’s no better way to get fantastic exercise and support an outstanding provider of extracurricular STEM education than with the upcoming Fun & Casual Pickleball event sponsored by Booz Allen and benefiting CABPES. Fun & Casual Pickleball will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., August 23, 2025 at the Gates Tennis Center, 3300 E. Bayaud Avenue in Denver, CO.
“We’re grateful for Booz Allen’s recognition and support of our STEM programs,” says Dewey Brigham Jr., Ph.D., CABPES Executive Director. “We’ve mentored approximately 10,000 students since our programs started, and the matriculation statistics speak for themselves. About 80 percent of our students are accepted into college, and approximately 75 percent of those students graduate. Additionally, about 2,000 of our alumni have earned master’s degrees and well over 7,000 of our alumni are employed in engineering fields. With support from Booz Allen and our other partners, we will continue to prepare the next generation for exciting careers in STEM-related fields.”
Not surprisingly, there’s a STEM-related angle behind Booz Allen and CABPES’ decision to present a Fun & Casual Pickleball event. In 2024, Scientific American ran an article citing data from Phil Hipol acoustics and structural dynamics engineer Phil Hipol, aka Professor Pickleball. Hipol conducted numerous experiments studying the physics behind the sport on his website.
“Of course, our goal for the day is for people to come out and have fun,” Brigham says. “Skill level isn’t important. We’ll have coaching sessions for beginners, spirited games for those with more experience, and even doubles matches for those who prefer to play in teams. Courts, paddles and balls will be provided by the Gates Tennis Center.”
How to Register

The Fun & Casual Pickleball registration page is now live! The cost to participate is $35 for single players and $60 ($30 per person) for those who prefer to register as a team.
If you can't make the event, you can still support CABPES and extracurricular STEM education by making a donation on the registration page.
We hope to see you at the event!
