The 2026 NBA Foundation grant will allow CABPES to expand and enhance its well-regarded after-school STEM education programs.

Earlier today, the NBA Foundation announced that CABPES was one of the recipients of a 2026 grant.

"This is the second year that we've received an NBA Foundation grant, and we are honored to have been selected," said Dewey F. Brigham, Ph.D., CABPES' president and executive director.

"The NBA Foundation's commitment to unlock economic opportunity for youth aligns fully with our mission to encourage bright, highly-motivated students from traditionally under-resourced communities to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers," Dr. Brigham continued. "We're grateful for the NBA Foundation's continued support and for their recognition of the important work that we do."

Launched in 2020, the NBA Foundation reflects a 10-year, $300 million commitment to drive economic opportunity and empowerment for under-resourced communities.

By its fifth anniversary in 2025, the Foundation had awarded $141M to more than 300 nonprofit partners and positively impacted more than 877,000 youth in 28 NBA markets across the United States.

What the 2026 NBA Foundation Grant Means for CABPES

Since our founding 45 years ago, CABPES has provided after-school STEM education for more than 10,000 middle and high school students. Our students have a 80% college acceptance rate, and more than 2,000 of our alumni have earned master's and graduate degrees.

"More than 5,000 of our alumni work in STEM-related fields and contribute significantly to their local communities as well as to the economy and STEM-related competitiveness of America as a whole," Dr. Brigham said.

The 2026 NBA Foundation grant will allow CABPES to:

  • Expand capacity for after-school STEM programs to serve even more middle and high school students.

  • Enhance community outreach to ensure more families are aware of CABPES' resources and opportunities.

"I'm a long-time fan of the NBA," Dr. Brigham said, "and I'm so pleased that the NBA Foundation is an invaluable member of the CABPES family."
