NURTURING THE INNOVATIVE S.T.E.M. MINDS OF TOMORROW

Our Mission

The Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging African-Americans and other underrepresented youth to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.

Vision

We envision a community whereby the number of minority STEM professionals will increase to the level that better represents the minority population while assisting the industry in meeting the growing demand for STEM professionals.

Programs

We believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to innovation and progress. By fostering a passion for STEM in our young people, we aim to build a brighter, more equitable future for all. Our commitment is to provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities necessary for these talented individuals to succeed. We work tirelessly to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create pathways to success.

Get Involved

Your involvement can be the catalyst that propels a young person toward a rewarding career in STEM. Join us in our mission to create a brighter, more inclusive future. Together, we can make a lasting impact. Volunteering with us not only benefits the youth we serve but also enriches your own life. You’ll have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet like-minded individuals, and contribute to a cause that is vital for creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community.

Our Goals

Build STEM awareness, interest and identity.

Drs. Dewey and Charlotte Brigham Receive Juanita Gray
Community Service Award

CABPES is proud to announce that Drs. Dewey and Charlotte Brigham were recently honored with the Juanita Gray Community Service Award, recognizing their extraordinary leadership, service, and long-standing commitment to preparing underrepresented students for STEM careers.

Dr. Dewey Brigham, President and Executive Director of CABPES, and his wife, Dr. Charlotte Brigham, have led the organization for more than 30 years, propelling CABPES forward through vision, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the potential of young people. Together, they have strengthened CABPES’ programs, expanded its reach, and ensured its continued impact across generations of students.

Under the Brighams’ leadership, CABPES has deepened its focus on academic excellence, exposure to STEM professionals, and long-term student success. Their work reflects the very spirit of the Juanita Gray Community Service Award—service rooted in equity, access, and sustained community impact.

CABPES is honored to celebrate Drs. Brigham and grateful for their decades of service, leadership, and dedication to empowering students and building a stronger, more inclusive future in STEM.

CABPES Launches Capital Campaign to Establish Permanent Home, Secures $250,000 in Early Support

At its recent annual Student Awards Banquet, CABPES proudly announced the launch of its capital campaign to secure a permanent, brick-and-mortar home for the organization—an investment that will expand its ability to serve and empower students in STEM for years to come.

The announcement was met with excitement and strong momentum, as CABPES also revealed that $250,000 has already been pledged toward the campaign from several sectors of stakeholders.

From families and volunteers, to corporations and board members – this early support underscores the confidence that donors and partners have in the organization’s vision and long-term impact.

The future facility will serve as a central hub for programming, mentorship, student engagement, and community connection—creating a dedicated space where students can access resources, build relationships, and thrive.

“This is a transformational step for CABPES,” said President and Executive Director, Dewey F. Brigham, Jr., Ph.D. “Having a place to call our own will allow us to deepen our impact, expand our reach, and better support the students and communities we serve.”
