Internet
Programming Class |
Class began with an introduction to the World Wide Web and how to use an Internet browser to search for information. The students engaged in friendly competition to hone their Internet searching skills. One of the first competitions involved finding the answer to historical and current event questions. First place went to the student with the greatest accuracy in their answers. Among the other competitions was a shopping spree, where students were given a list of items on a Christmas shopping list with the winner being the one who could locate the lowest cumulative prices. The final competition involved finding airline tickets that would allow them to circumnavigate the globe. The student who could make the trip in the shortest amount of time was the winner.
The final project for the students was the creation of their own Internet websites. Using the free services of Internet giant Yahoo, the students were able to create simple web pages. They learned how to locate clip art and photographs on the web and added the graphics and text to their personal web pages. Our more advanced students used Microsoft FrontPage to create their sites. All of the student sites are accessible through the CABPES website at
www.cabpes.org.
